Moving On (Alexa Margaret's song) by Peter Selby

I wrote this song for Mom about a year before Alexa Margaret crossed over - she so wanted to go and be with Leighton but her body was just stubbornly holding on to life. The song was written to reflect the process she was going through. You can hear the song under 'Sounds" Moving On When I was with you just the other day, You said you felt like you might pass away. I could understand ‘cause you looked so wan. I know you’ve been hopin’, been hopin’ to be moving on. Moving on, moving on It sounds so easy, just like ‘poof’ you’re gone. But it ain’t so simple, No, you’re way too strong Can’t just snap your fingers and join the great beyond. You’re ninety somethin’ tired, your body’s breaking down, Your mind’s gettin’ cloudy, you’re not hearing all the sounds. Got the Tee shirt, great grand kids, the throne and the crown, But you wake up every morning wonderin’ why you’re still around. Moving on, moving on It sounds so easy, just like ‘poof’ you’re gone But it ain’t so simple, No, you’re way too strong Can’t just snap your fingers and join the great beyond. Our days are measured in the love that we have to give. You’ve given some sweet love, birthed lives to be lived. Seen troubles & good times, known laughter and tears. Tried to puzzle out the meaning and live beyond your fears. Release those bags your dragging, please check them at the door, Finish undone business and consider it no more. Complete your final lesson, And graduate your Soul. Its love for self you’re learning, and that will make you whole.
